Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has confirmed that Pedri will miss Sunday’s La Liga match against Villarreal due to injury.
Pedri played in Barça’s recent 2-0 Copa del Rey victory over Guadalajara before experiencing discomfort in the final minutes of the game.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Pedri is suffering from problems with his hamstring and calf, leading Flick to decide against traveling to the Estadio de la Cerámica and to rest him to avoid aggravating the injury.
Flick stated that the injury is not serious and that Pedri’s exclusion from the Villarreal match is purely precautionary.
Unless there are any further developments, the 23-year-old should be fit to play in Barcelona’s first match of 2026 against Osasuna on January 3rd.
In the worst-case scenario, Pedri might also be left out of this match to ensure his full recovery, with the aim of having him ready for the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Bilbao on January 7th in Saudi Arabia.
It’s worth noting that Pedri has made 19 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing six assists. He returned in early December from a muscle injury that sidelined him for nearly two months, which explains Flick’s reluctance to risk him.
