Barcelona officially announced the renewal of Eric Garcia’s contract for an additional five years, keeping him at the Catalan club until the summer of 2031.
The Spanish international’s contract with Barcelona was set to expire in the summer of 2026, and several major European clubs, most notably Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, had expressed interest in acquiring his services.
Over the past two seasons, Garcia has become a key player in Hansi Flick’s squad, prompting Joan Laporta’s administration to work in recent weeks to extend his stay at Camp Nou for as long as possible.
Given the player’s desire to remain with his hometown club, Barcelona, and the salary increase he will receive, he finalized the renewal on Friday.
In announcing the contract extension, Barcelona praised the 24-year-old, describing him as “a role model for young players, whose performance, maturity, and commitment have been fundamental in strengthening his relationship with the club.” Garcia is a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy. He left in 2017 for Manchester City before returning to Barça on a free transfer in 2021. He also had a year-long loan spell at Girona between 2023 and 2024.
Garcia has given his coach, Hansi Flick, considerable versatility, as he can play at center-back, right-back, and even in midfield.
This season, the Catalan player has featured in 20 matches for Barça across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
