Real Madrid released an official statement detailing the injury suffered by Trent Alexander-Arnold during their La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao.
Xabi Alonso was forced to substitute the English star at San Mamés Stadium, bringing on Raúl Asensio in his place during the second half of the match, which Real Madrid won 3-0.
Arnold underwent comprehensive medical tests that revealed a tear in his left quadriceps muscle. Real Madrid’s statement did not specify the duration of the former Liverpool player’s absence.
However, according to the newspaper AS, Arnold’s absence will be approximately two months to ten weeks, a significant blow for Real Madrid.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury puts Xabi Alonso in a real predicament, especially since it comes at a time when Dani Carvajal is also sidelined. Consequently, there is no right-back available until 2025, and the coach will have to rely on either Raúl Asensio or Fede Valverde to fill the gap.
This is Alexander-Arnold’s second major injury this season, after he missed a month between September and October due to a muscle injury sustained in the Champions League match against Marseille.
It is worth noting that Alexander-Arnold will be out until at least February, confirming his absence from the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, which kicks off on January 8th.
Meanwhile, Eduardo Camavinga is not injured despite being unable to finish the match against Athletic Bilbao, and the French star should be available to play against Celta Vigo on Sunday without any issues.
