According to Sky Sports, a German football star is close to joining Inter Miami in the upcoming winter transfer window.
The player in question is Timo Werner, the RB Leipzig striker, who is currently hoping to leave the Red Bull Arena after falling completely out of favor with coach Uli Werner.
The latest report indicates that advanced talks are underway between Werner’s agent and Inter Miami, bringing the 31-year-old closer to playing alongside Lionel Messi at the American club.
Werner has reportedly decided to leave Leipzig in the winter and move to Major League Soccer, and is no longer interested in any offers from Europe.
Unless something unexpected happens, the Stuttgart native will end up at Inter Miami, and the deal is likely to be a free transfer.
While Timo Werner’s contract with RB Leipzig runs until the summer of 2026, the German club is keen to offload him by any means necessary to save on his hefty salary, including the option of mutually terminating his contract so he can move to Miami on a free transfer.
Werner was one of Germany’s brightest talents in the last decade, but his star faded considerably after a disappointing spell at Chelsea. Over the past year, a combination of injuries and a sharp decline in form has effectively sidelined him for Leipzig.
