Real Madrid officials have decided against signing Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer this summer.
The French star has yet to reach an agreement with Liverpool regarding a contract extension, as his current deal expires in the summer of 2026. Real Madrid have been showing strong interest in the player for several months.
According to The Athletic, Real Madrid have informed Liverpool that they have no intention of pursuing Konaté.
Real Madrid’s withdrawal from the Konaté deal seems logical given his significant drop in form, a trend mirrored by many Liverpool players this season.
This news coincides with reports that surfaced approximately a month ago suggesting that Real Madrid had reached an agreement with Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano for him to join the Santiago Bernabéu on a free transfer this summer.
Signing a new center-back is Real Madrid’s priority in the 2026 summer transfer window, but the Merengues’ management will only sign one player, and it seems that Upamecano has won this competition with Konate in the end.
