Ramadan Sobhi Banned for 4 Years for Doping

Ramadan Sobhi has received another blow after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decided to ban him for four years due to a positive doping test.

The incident dates back to March 2024 when Sobhi’s sample came back positive. The Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization (EADO) then provisionally suspended him in May, before lifting the suspension in July of the same year.

In September, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed the EADO’s decision, and the CAS reviewed the case, upholding the EADO’s claims and imposing a four-year ban on the player.

The Pyramids FC star still has one last chance to avoid this harsh penalty, as he has the right to appeal the decision to the Swiss Federal Court, hoping to prove that the sample was not positive.

This decision adds to the former Al Ahly player’s woes, as he is currently facing a major crisis in Egypt after a court ordered his detention until the end of the year pending a final ruling in a case concerning allegations that he paid someone to take exams at the Abu Nomros Institute in his place.

Many players have fallen into the trap of doping and the resulting severe penalties, the latest being Paul Pogba, who was sidelined for more than two years by a similar decision that was reduced after initially being four years as well.
