Cadena COPE has revealed that six Real Madrid players are opposed to Xabi Alonso and hope he leaves the club as soon as possible.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Vinicius Junior, who has so far refused to renew his contract due to the strained relationship between him and Alonso, were at the forefront of this group.
The other five players on the list are: Andrek, Fede Valverde, Rodrygo, Benjamin Mendy, and Brahim Diaz.
Andrek has fallen completely out of favor with Alonso, to the point that he was forced to leave Real Madrid in the winter transfer window for Lyon on loan to get playing time.
The same applies to Mendy, who is also out of favor, and Alonso is not convinced of his abilities, especially given the excellent performances of Alvaro Carreras and his backup, Fran Garcia, at left-back.
Diaz isn’t getting much playing time, and the same goes for Rodrygo. Alonso has also failed to find a suitable tactical role for either of them so far, and his personal relationship with them is strained.
Valverde’s situation is different and more complex. Alonso sees him as a good player, while the Uruguayan sees himself as a Toni Kroos player who should always be in midfield – a stark contrast to the coach’s vision.
The relationship between Alonso and Valverde is practically nonexistent. The player refuses to play at right-back again and deeply misses the days of Carlo Ancelotti and the strong bond they shared.
On the other hand, Alonso consistently receives support from five players: Kylian Mbappe, Arda Güler, Thibaut Courtois, Álvaro Carreras, and Dean Hoesen. The rest of the squad remains neutral.
Ultimately, the dressing room division threatens Alonso’s future. His only path to remaining at Real Madrid depends on results; any further setbacks could ultimately lead to his dismissal, even mid-season.
