Everton’s Idrissa Gueye received a red card after clashing with teammate Michael Keane during the Premier League match against Manchester United.
United’s Bruno Fernandes had just come close to scoring when Gueye and Keane began arguing in the 13th minute of the match at Old Trafford, with the score still 0-0.
Kane pushed Gueye twice to separate them before the Senegalese player slapped his teammate in the face.
Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford intervened to separate the players before referee Tony Harrington showed Gueye a straight red card for violent conduct.
The violent conduct code defines a red card offense as striking an opponent or any other person on the head or face with the hand or arm, unless the force used is minimal (non-lethal), which supports the referee’s decision in this very rare case.
