Real Madrid has reached a total agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Yan Diomande during the current summer transfer window, completing a massive transfer requested by manager José Mourinho.
According to Foot Mercato, the agreement between Real Madrid and Leipzig exceeds €100 million including add-ons, following Leipzig’s rejection of Madrid’s initial offer of €90 million guaranteed plus €10 million in variables.
Paris Saint-Germain was previously close to securing the Ivorian winger, having reached personal terms on a five-year contract. However, PSG officially withdrew from the race after deeming the financial package disproportionate and disruptive to market stability.
PSG’s stance highlighted that the overall fee and player salary surpassed the boundaries of sound financial management and squad wage balance, prompting the French champions to walk away rather than breach their fiscal principles.
In recent days, Diomande turned down approaches from Arsenal and Manchester City despite direct contact with his representatives. Liverpool remained in the picture with strong interest, but Real Madrid ultimately surged ahead in the decisive stage.
The 19-year-old sensation dazzled during his debut season with Leipzig, recording 13 goals and 10 assists across 36 matches in all competitions (including 12 goals and 8 assists in the Bundesliga), while earning the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award.
Diomande also shone for the Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup, helping “The Elephants” reach the knockout stages for the first time in their history. He provided an assist against Curaçao and emerged as one of the tournament’s breakout young talents.
Diomande becomes Real Madrid’s fifth signing of the summer window, following Marc Cucurella from Chelsea (€55M), Bernardo Silva on a free transfer from Manchester City, Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer from Liverpool, and Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan for around €20 million.
Exceeding €100 million, Diomande’s transfer enters the ranks of the most expensive signings in Real Madrid history, behind Eden Hazard (€120.8M) and Jude Bellingham, whose €127 million move remains the club’s record deal at the Santiago Bernabéu.
