Believe it or not, Real Madrid will try to sign Wirtz

Real Madrid’s management has promised coach Xabi Alonso that they will deliver his “dream signing” and bring in Liverpool star Florian Wirtz.

The German international chose to join the Reds over Bayern Munich last summer, and Liverpool signed him for €150 million, the second-highest transfer fee in Premier League history.

Since joining Liverpool, Wirtz has never lived up to expectations and has yet to score a single goal.

According to the newspaper Defensa Central, Real Madrid is closely monitoring Wirtz’s situation and hopes that his difficult circumstances at Liverpool might pave the way for him to leave Anfield soon and reunite with Alonso.

It’s true that Florentino Pérez’s administration is well aware of the difficulty Liverpool will face in letting Wirtz go, even if he maintains his current form. However, they have promised Xabi Alonso that they will fulfill his strong desire to sign Wirtz and will work diligently to bring the German to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid’s management has initially allocated a maximum of €70 million for Wirtz’s transfer, a figure Liverpool officials are unlikely to accept next summer. Nevertheless, the Merengues’ management refuses to rule out the possibility, and the deal might be delayed for a year or two.

It’s worth noting that Wirtz was close to joining Real Madrid in 2020 before suffering a cruciate ligament injury. The 22-year-old owes his success at Bayer Leverkusen over the past two years to Xabi Alonso, who successfully developed him into one of the best players in Europe.
