Several rumors have circulated in recent hours about the existence of a $2 million penalty clause that would prevent Zamalek from dismissing sporting director John Edward, indicating the club’s dissatisfaction with the work of the former Pharco director.
Edward was attacked by Zamalek fans during the match against Dekedaha, before issuing a press statement confirming his understanding of all the criticism and explaining that the club is experiencing a severe economic crisis that renders it unable to act as needed.
However, as confirmed by Egyptian media outlets, the circulating news about the existence of a $2 million penalty clause is baseless. While there is a penalty clause in the contract between the two parties, its value is much lower than that.
At the same time, Zamalek’s management does not intend to dismiss Edward, nor does he intend to resign. There is a sense of mutual respect and understanding between the two parties, given the club’s current difficult circumstances, and there is no talk of ending this experience.
Even if either party decides to terminate the contract, this will be done amicably and without the need to activate the penalty clause. John Edward greatly respects Zamalek and does not want to cause any crises, either now or in the future.
