Barcelona coach Hansi Flick will not receive a harsher penalty for his obscene gesture during Barça’s match against Girona on Saturday, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.
Flick was sent off in the Barcelona-Girona match after receiving two yellow cards, but then reappeared on the pitch after Ronald Araujo’s decisive last-minute goal, and during his hysterical celebration, the German made an obscene gesture.
According to the latest report, referee Gil Manzano did not include Flick making the obscene gesture during the celebration of the winning goal against Girona. Therefore, the German will not be punished by the disciplinary committee for his actions.
However, it is certain that Flick will not stand in the technical area at the Santiago Bernabéu and direct Barcelona’s players in the upcoming match against Real Madrid, given that the penalty for expulsion (after two yellow cards) is limited to a one-match suspension.
Barcelona will make a desperate attempt with the Disciplinary Committee to overturn the penalty by filing an appeal, but it is not expected to be successful. Consequently, Michael Sorg, Flick’s first assistant, will lead the Blaugrana in next Sunday’s El Clásico.
Barcelona will face Olympiacos on Tuesday in the third round of the Champions League, at Montjuïc Stadium.
