It’s now likely that Robert Lewandowski will leave Barcelona at the end of his contract next summer, but the surprise is that he may stay in La Liga and move to another La Liga giant.
Reports from Poland indicate that Atletico Madrid is closely monitoring Lewandowski to secure his signature for free in the summer of 2026.
Despite interest from Saudi Arabia and the Major League Soccer (MLS), Lewandowski is said to prioritize staying in La Liga if Barcelona doesn’t extend his stay. His agent, Pini Zahavi, has also reportedly explored opportunities with Milan and Juventus, but there have been no official offers yet.
Atletico’s interest in the 37-year-old aligns with the club’s historical approach of signing experienced strikers from Barcelona, including Luis Suarez and David Villa, both of whom have enjoyed successful spells in Madrid. Diego Simeone is said to hold Lewandowski in high regard, especially since Atlético Madrid may need a new striker if Alexander Sorloth leaves.
Meanwhile, Lewandowski still dreams of another chance at Barcelona, renewing his contract, and retiring at Camp Nou. However, things are becoming difficult, especially with the mounting internal criticism against him following his repeated injuries, particularly after his latest injury with the Polish national team.
It is worth noting that Lewandowski will be out for a month and a half, and there is considerable anger within Barcelona over his insistence on completing the Poland-Lithuania match despite his injury, which has exacerbated his muscle injury.
