For the first time in history, Japan defeats Brazil

Japan achieved a historic victory over Brazil, after the Samurai Blue overturned a two-goal deficit to win 3-0 in a friendly match held in Tokyo.

Paulo Henrique scored Brazil’s first goal in the 26th minute, followed by Gabriel Martinelli’s second goal in the 32nd minute, leading everyone to believe that Carlo Ancelotti’s side would have an easy task and achieve a resounding victory over the Asian giants.

In the second half, Japan responded with a tremendous comeback. Takumi Minamino reduced the deficit in the 52nd minute, followed by an own goal from Fabricio Bruno, before Ayase Ueda headed in the third goal in the 71st minute.

Historically, this is the first time Japan has defeated Brazil in 14 matches between the two teams in various official and friendly competitions.

Brazil had previously defeated South Korea 5-0 in a friendly a few days earlier.

This is the second defeat under Carlo Ancelotti in the Samba Country, following a 1-0 loss to Bolivia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers last June.

Japan and Brazil have already qualified for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, and both teams are preparing optimally for the tournament’s launch next June.
