Ferland Mendy will partially participate in Real Madrid’s group training this week after a six-month absence due to injury, according to The Athletic.
Mendy sustained the injury in the Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona in April, and it was estimated that he would only need two and a half months to recover and return to action. However, his absence ultimately extended to six full months.
Now, the 30-year-old has recovered from his injuries and is scheduled to join Real Madrid’s training for the first time under Xabi Alonso. This is a gradual process, as part of a plan to reduce the risk of recurring setbacks that have plagued him in recent seasons.
Barring any further setbacks, Mendy should be ready to participate in Real Madrid matches again within two to three weeks at most.
Mendy will find himself in fierce competition with the highly-rated left-back Álvaro Carreras, while Fran Garcia continues to develop alongside Alonso, making the French international the third choice in his position, especially since his style of play doesn’t align well with the Spanish coach’s ideas.
