Barcelona’s board has decided to thank Robert Lewandowski and not renew his contract, which expires in the summer of 2026. They are considering signing another young striker to replace him at Camp Nou, according to Sport.
Barcelona’s board believes that Lewandowski has given the club everything he has and has no more. His ability to press and contribute to the rhythm of the team has clearly declined with his age, now 37.
Although Hansi Flick is a big supporter of Lewandowski, the German coach now has no objection to the Polish international ending his career with Barça, provided the Catalan club signs another striker who can achieve similar performances.
Contrary to the hopes of Barcelona fans, the club’s management has no intention of signing a high-profile, expensive striker due to the difficult economic situation. Laporta’s administration is leaning toward a promising striker, with current interest in Cameroonian Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who has enjoyed a distinguished career in La Liga with Villarreal and Levante.
As for Lewandowski, he has yet to make a decision on his future, but he is attracting significant interest from Saudi clubs. He still wants to stay in Europe, amid growing talk of Milan’s interest in repeating Luka Modric’s experience with him next summer.
It’s worth noting that Lewandowski joined Barcelona in the summer of 2022 from Bayern Munich for €45 million. Since then, he has made 156 appearances for the Catalan club, scoring 105 goals and providing 20 assists. He has won two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, and one Copa del Rey title.
