Speaking on Radio Marca, journalist David Sánchez noted that signing Álvarez has become “nearly impossible,” explaining that Deco will proceed with backup plans. Sánchez revealed that Ayoze Pérez is a profile highly admired by manager Hansi Flick.

At 33 years old, Pérez represents a short-term solution rather than a long-term project. However, he brings extensive top-flight experience across La Liga and the Premier League, alongside tactical versatility—capable of playing as a central striker, shadow striker, or across both wings.

Pérez remains under contract with Villarreal through the summer of 2028, with a release clause set at approximately €30 million, though reports indicate this figure may be negotiable. Sources suggest the player would actively push to complete a move should Barcelona submit a formal offer.

After breaking through at Tenerife, Pérez joined Newcastle United in 2014, spending several seasons in the Premier League before moving to Leicester City. He returned to Spain with Real Betis before joining Villarreal in the summer of 2023.

His stint at Villarreal revitalized his career, showing enhanced efficiency inside the penalty box. While enjoying a strong 2024–2025 campaign, his output adjusted last season to 4 goals and 5 assists across 30 appearances in all competitions (including 4 La Liga goals).

On the international stage, Pérez has earned 5 caps for the Spain national team, scoring twice, and was part of the squad that won UEFA Euro 2024.
