Al Ahly now has a good chance of claiming the top spot in the Egyptian League standings after defeating Zamalek 2-1 in the summit clash.
Although Zamalek opened the scoring through Hossam Abdel-Maguid in the first half, Al Ahly managed to come back in the second half with a goal from Hussein El-Shahat. Trezeguet then scored the winning goal from a penalty kick in the 79th minute.
Nine rounds have passed since the Egyptian League’s exceptional format, and despite Al Ahly’s generally poor start, they have returned to the competition with aplomb, alongside Zamalek and Pyramids.
As is well known, the top seven teams in the Egyptian League advance to the second round to compete for the title, while the remaining teams advance to the second round to decide relegation to the second division.
