So far, Ruben Amorim still enjoys the support of Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but that situation is expected to change soon if the Red Devils’ results do not improve.
United suffered another Premier League defeat to Brentford on Saturday, leaving them with seven points and dropping to 14th place after six matches.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, who is close to United, Amorim will remain in his position at least until early November.
The reason behind this is that sacking Amorim, if it happens after the end of October, would cost United much less compensation than if he were sacked now.
In general, Ratcliffe believes it is necessary to take a cautious approach and give Amorim a chance. However, continued poor results coupled with pressure from fans may eventually force him to terminate the Portuguese’s services, but not before November unless a catastrophe occurs.
Meanwhile, Manchester United has identified four coaches as potential successors to Amorim at Old Trafford: Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, Brighton manager Fabian Horzeler, and former England manager Gareth Southgate.
Some reports indicate that Ratcliffe had a positive conversation with Southgate, who left the England job nearly a year ago and is said to have no plans to return to coaching anytime soon. However, he is currently the leading candidate to succeed Amorim.
