AS newspaper reported that Bayern Munich star Dayot Upamecano has a strong desire to join Real Madrid for free in the summer of 2026.
Bayern Munich has intensified negotiations with Upamecano’s agent in recent weeks to renew his contract, which expires at the end of this season, but no agreement has been reached so far.
According to the Spanish newspaper, Upamecano has informed his agent that he would be very interested in joining Real Madrid if the opportunity arose next summer.
Upamecano has already emerged as a potential option for Real Madrid, which is looking for significant reinforcements in its central defense in light of the expected departure of Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba, while Xabi Alonso is unconvinced by the capabilities of young player Raúl Asensio.
Florentino Pérez’s administration always favors free transfers that avoid arduous negotiations with clubs, and this formula, which applies to Upamecano, makes him an ideal target next summer.
It’s worth noting that Real Madrid still has Ibrahima Konate as its first choice, as his contract with Liverpool also expires next summer and he is also leaning toward a move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Negotiations between Upamecano’s agent and Real Madrid are expected to begin in the coming weeks, and reaching an agreement should not be difficult. Ultimately, however, it depends on the Pérez administration whether to move forward with the Frenchman, just Konate, or both players at once.
