Barcelona star Lamine Yamal will not be able to participate in the Champions League match against Newcastle due to injury.
The 18-year-old missed the recent La Liga match against Valencia due to an injury he aggravated while playing for the Spanish national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
According to Sport, Yamal did not participate in Barcelona’s group training on Tuesday, making it clear that he is not in coach Hansi Flick’s plans for next Thursday’s match against Newcastle at St. James’ Park.
Yamal has been training individually in the gym, and Flick does not intend to risk him against Newcastle to prevent the injury from worsening and resulting in a prolonged absence.
The Spanish international’s participation in the upcoming match against Getafe on Sunday remains unknown, and he will likely be on the bench unless he is fully recovered.
A major crisis erupted between the Spanish national team and Barcelona over the player, after Flick accused his counterpart, De la Fuente, of negligence. He claimed that he fielded Yamal in the matches against Bulgaria and Turkey despite knowing he was suffering from an injury, and that he was forced to take painkillers that later exacerbated his injury.
Yamal will be Barcelona’s fourth absence against Newcastle, with Ter Stegen, Alejandro Balde, and Gavi also missing due to various injuries.
