Lionel Messi missed a strange penalty kick in his team’s match against Charlotte in the American League.
The Flea, who has been in brilliant form this season, had the opportunity to put Inter Miami ahead after winning a penalty kick in the 31st minute.
However, Messi wanted to take a Panenka, but the Charlotte goalkeeper was aware of this and stayed put, successfully saving the kick.
This was the 33rd penalty miss for Messi in his long career, making him the player with the most penalty misses in history.
No luck on the panenka.

Unfortunately for Messi, Charlotte eventually won 3-0, adding to Inter Miami’s misery, as they were two weeks away from the Leagues Cup Final against the Seattle Sounders.
Charlotte moved up to third place with 53 points from 30 games, while Inter Miami remained eighth with 46 points from 26 games and has four games in hand.
It’s worth noting that Inter Miami has only won one of its last five league matches, threatening Javier Mascherano’s side with a playoff berth.
