Omar Marmoush’s absence from the Manchester derby confirmed

Manchester City has officially announced the absence of Egyptian star Omar Marmoush from Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester United.

Marmoush left the field in the first half of Egypt’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso with what appeared to be a serious knee injury, raising concerns among City and Pep Guardiola about his condition and the length of his absence.

Marmoush underwent medical tests upon his arrival in Cairo, and according to Manchester City, these tests confirmed a severe bruise in his knee ligaments.

In principle, Marmoush will not be able to participate in Sunday’s Manchester derby, but the exact length of his absence remains unknown. According to media reports, the 25-year-old’s return will likely be slow, and he may be sidelined until the next international break in October.

Knee ligament injuries typically require a month to heal and prevent further aggravation, which is why Guardiola has already ruled Marmoush out of his plans.

Marmoush joins City’s extensive injury list, which includes 13 players, further troubling Guardiola, who has suffered two defeats in his first three Premier League matches.
