Three teams from South America have officially qualified for the 2026 World Cup.
Uruguay qualified for the World Cup after defeating Peru 3-0 in the 17th round of qualifying.
Uruguay became the third team coached by Marcelo Bielsa to qualify for the World Cup, following Argentina in 2002 and Chile in 2010, where their best performance was reaching the round of 16.
Meanwhile, Colombia also qualified after a 3-0 win over Bolivia, followed by Paraguay after a goalless draw with Ecuador.
Thus, the direct World Cup berths have been decided from South America, where Argentina, Brazil, and Ecuador have already qualified. Colombia, Uruguay, and Paraguay now qualify.
The number of Latin American teams in the World Cup could increase, as the seventh-place team will advance to the playoffs.
Currently, Venezuela is in seventh place with 18 points, and the competition with Bolivia (17 points) will be intense before the final round, when Venezuela faces Colombia, while Bolivia meets Brazil.
