Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim considered his team’s defeat to Arsenal unfair, but at the same time demonstrated the Red Devils’ great strength this season.
United lost to Arsenal at Old Trafford 1-0, courtesy of a Riccardo Calafiori goal, in a match where Amorim’s side clearly dominated the game and featured highly controversial refereeing decisions.
“We proved today that we can beat any team in the Premier League,” Amorim told the media after the match.
The Portuguese coach added, “We were the better side against a strong team like Arsenal, so I’m confident. We’ll try to build on this match.”
Regarding Arsenal’s controversial goal, he said, “It was a strange goal, but we tried our best to score. We have some small details that will make a difference in the future. We need to win matches.”
He continued, “I’m proud of the players. I’ve said repeatedly that the players need to adapt, their strength, and their quick running style. They fought throughout the game and were very brave in one-on-ones.”
Regarding the exclusion of André Onana and the reliance on Altay Bayındır in goal, Amorim commented clearly, “I didn’t exclude Onana. I put two players ahead of him. It’s that simple. I’m happy with the three goalkeepers we have at United.”
Manchester United will face Fulham in the second round of the Premier League at Craven Cottage next Sunday.
