Alexander Isak has stepped up his pressure on Newcastle to allow him to leave this summer for Liverpool, in a shocking move.
The Swedish star has agreed personal terms with the Reds, but Newcastle refuses to let him go and rejected Liverpool’s initial offer nearly two weeks ago.
The Athletic reported that Isak will no longer train with Newcastle, and that the player has made a final decision: He will not wear the Magpies shirt again, even if he is forced to remain at St. James’ Park next season.
Although Isak wants to prepare for the 2026 World Cup and play regularly, he rejects the way Newcastle’s management has treated him and their extreme intransigence in allowing him to leave. He also rejects the club’s position on renewing his contract last summer and offering him the salary he wanted.
It’s unknown how Newcastle will react to Isak’s tough stance, but it’s expected to make the club more flexible in negotiations with Liverpool.
According to The Athletic, Isak is currently waiting for Liverpool to send a new official offer to Newcastle, worth up to £150 million, at which point the Magpies are expected to accept.
Newcastle is intensifying its search for a new striker to replace the 26-year-old Isak, realizing that all paths lead to his departure. Negotiations are underway with Brentford star Yoann Wissa.
