Newcastle United rejected a historic official bid from Liverpool for Alexander Isak on Friday, according to British media reports.
Liverpool agreed on all personal terms with Isak, but the transfer fee remains to be agreed with Newcastle management, given that the Swedish star’s contract at St. James’ Park runs until the summer of 2028.
Recent reports revealed that Liverpool had submitted an official offer of £110 million, payable in two installments, to sign Isak. However, Newcastle’s response was a surprise, with the Magpies immediately rejecting it.
It was initially reported that Newcastle were targeting a higher sum, and the club did not want Isak to leave before deciding on his replacement. Negotiations with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko are already underway, but they have not been completed.
At the same time, the BBC confirmed that Liverpool had completely withdrawn from the race to sign Isak, a shocking development, especially since the player is not training with Newcastle and only wants to join Anfield this summer.
However, other reports elaborate on the situation, confirming that Liverpool’s offer to Newcastle will remain valid until the final day of the summer transfer window, and that the Reds’ sole decision is not to improve it or send a new offer.
Thus, Liverpool hopes that the player and his agent will intervene and convince Newcastle’s management to accept the current terms, and the idea of an improved offer at the last minute remains.
It can be said that Liverpool will continue to try to sign Isak as much as they can until the last gasp, but what is certain at the moment is that the club has reached the peak of what it can offer financially, and there is no possibility of increasing that unless something new happens in the coming period.
