Marcus Rashford made huge sacrifices to achieve his dream move to Barcelona, and Manchester United also made many concessions to free themselves from the burden of the English star.
Barcelona and United have reached an agreement on all details related to the deal, and the player is expected to travel to Spain within hours for a medical. The deal will be announced on Tuesday.
According to Marca, Rashford has given up 25% of his salary and will receive a total of €10 million during the year of his loan with Barcelona.
The 28-year-old’s second sacrifice was not requiring any guarantees for his registration with Barcelona, despite the seriousness of the situation and the difficult economic situation at Camp Nou. This is in stark contrast to what previously caused Neco Williams’s deal to fail and led to his continued stay with Athletic Bilbao.
Meanwhile, United’s biggest concession was their acceptance of Rashford’s one-year loan deal and their decision not to sell him immediately. The English club also reduced its buyout clause next summer to between €30 and €35 million, compared to the Red Devils’ previous demand of more than €40 million.
United’s sacrifice can be understood simply because Rashford’s departure will save the club €19 million this year, which will allow for more attacking signings, especially with the departures of other players such as Anthony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho.
