Real Madrid announced in an official statement that Jude Bellingham has undergone shoulder surgery, which will keep him out of action for a relatively long period.
The England international suffered a left shoulder injury the season before last, but he continued to postpone the surgery month after month, with the club’s support, due to the busy schedule and Euro 2024.
Following criticism of Bellingham’s decline in form last season, Real Madrid’s management decided to allow him to undergo surgery after the 2025 Club World Cup, hoping to be at his best next season.
Indeed, Bellingham underwent surgery on his left shoulder in London on Wednesday, and his condition is stable, according to a Real Madrid statement.
Spanish media reports indicate that Bellingham will need at least three months to recover and return to Real Madrid matches.
This means the 23-year-old will miss approximately the first two months of the season, and should return in late October or early November, depending on the speed of his recovery.
Real Madrid’s season kicks off with a match against Osasuna on August 19 at the Santiago Bernabéu. Initially, Bellingham is certain to miss the following matches: Real Oviedo, Real Mallorca, Real Sociedad, Espanyol, Levante, Atlético Madrid, Villarreal, and Getafe. He is likely to be fit for the El Clásico against Barcelona in late October.
It is worth noting that Bellingham had wanted to undergo surgery to be fully prepared for the new season, while also avoiding any pain during his biggest dream with the England national team, the 2026 World Cup.
