Negotiations between Real Madrid and Vinicius Junior have reached a dead end, and according to Spanish media reports, the club has decided to freeze them and not renew the Brazilian international’s contract during the current summer transfer window.
Ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup, Spanish newspapers reported that an agreement had been reached between Real Madrid and Vinicius on everything, and that the renewal would be announced once Los Blancos’ World Cup campaign ended. However, the reality has shown completely different results.
Vinicius’s contract at the Santiago Bernabéu still runs until the summer of 2027, with a €1 billion release clause.
Vinicius Junior wants €30 million per year
According to recent reports, salary is the main obstacle to negotiations between the two parties, as Vinicius is demanding a salary of €30 million per year, which would even exceed Real Madrid’s highest-paid player, Kylian Mbappé.
On the other hand, Florentino Pérez’s administration adheres to its strict and decisive financial policy, refusing to engage in any negotiations that might jeopardize the club’s financial situation, especially given the recurring incidents in Barcelona.
The club clearly believes that there must be a balance in salaries between the four most important players: Vinicius, Mbappé, Bellingham, and Rodrygo. The disparities between them should not be significant, both for sporting reasons and for financial stability.
Vinicius currently earns €10 million per year, and Real Madrid’s offer would see his new salary set at only €15 to €20 million.
Real Madrid’s message to Vinicius: You’re number two!
There’s also a message from Real Madrid officials that Vinicius has received in recent months, stating that he’s no longer the team’s primary star, but rather second only to Kylian Mbappé, who has proven himself with flying colors in his first season with Los Blancos.
Vinicius’s inconsistent performance last season was also a major factor in Real Madrid’s lack of confidence in him, especially since expectations were for him to explode further after losing the Ballon d’Or, but the exact opposite happened.
One way for Real Madrid to declare that Vinicius is no longer the star and that Mbappé is the number one is by handing the French international the number 10 shirt after Luka Modric’s departure.
In one way or another, Vinicius appears to be jealous of Mbappé. Although their relationship appears to be good, the Brazilian is unwilling to accept being made less important or receiving a lower salary than the French star.
Vinicius Breaks Covenant with Perez and Faces Difficult Days
Journalist Pepe Alvarez confirms that Vinicius’s coming days at the Santiago Bernabéu will not be easy. He previously promised President Perez that he would sign a new contract after the Club World Cup, and now he is breaking that promise.
Alvarez claims that Vinicius’ current plan is to stay with Real Madrid until the summer of 2027, then leave for free and receive huge sums from any other club, a move that greatly angers Perez and his entourage.
There are voices calling for the 25-year-old to be offloaded this summer to generate financial gain. Alvarez emphasizes that Perez will never tolerate anyone who gives him a word and then breaks it, and that Vinicius risks facing very difficult times if he does not renew his contract soon.
