Lookman’s deal seemed ideal for Barcelona. The player could leave Atalanta for less than €50 million, within the club’s financial means. Furthermore, coach Hansi Flick was impressed by his abilities and did not object to the deal.
However, Ter Stegen appears to be the stumbling block in this deal. This is because his agent also represents Lookman, and the relationship between the German goalkeeper’s entourage and Barcelona’s management is extremely tense.
Both Ter Stegen and his agent are deeply angry with Barcelona over the way news of his desire to leave was leaked to the press. Furthermore, any negotiations between the club and the agent in any area will not be easy, given the near-complete lack of trust between the two parties.
As a result, Barcelona will be forced to consider another option unless Lookman’s agent indicates a possible agreement, specifically regarding Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.
The England international is available on Barcelona’s table for a price similar to Lookman’s. The player is also very keen to experience Barça and is willing to make concessions that neither Lookman nor his agent seem willing to accept, particularly regarding the transfer window.
