The Madrid Provincial Court sentenced former Real Madrid and current Brazil national team coach to one year in prison for tax evasion related to the 2014 tax year.
According to the Spanish news agency, Ancelotti was sentenced to one year in prison, a fine of €386,000, and the loss of access to public aid or subsidies, and the right to tax benefits, incentives, or social security for three years.
At the same time, Ancelotti was acquitted of the same charge for 2015.
Ancelotti was accused of defrauding the Spanish public treasury of more than €1 million in 2014 and 2015, during his first tenure as Real Madrid coach.
The Italian coach appeared in court last April and asserted that he had no intention of defrauding the treasury and that he had done what the club and its advisors had told him to do. He requested his acquittal or at least a reduced sentence.
Ancelotti is expected to appeal the verdict, at least to overturn the prison sentence.
It’s worth noting that Ancelotti left Real Madrid at the end of last season and is currently in charge of the Brazilian national team, where he successfully led the country to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
