Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois expressed his frustration with the red card Dejan Huijsen received against Borussia Dortmund, believing it was unnecessary.
Huijsen fouled Serhou Guirassy in the final minute of the match, with Real Madrid leading 3-1. He was subsequently shown a red card and a penalty kick for the German club, which the Guinean striker converted.
Courtois commented on the incident after the match, saying, “Of course he’s frustrated, and so are we. The red card wasn’t necessary in the first place.”
He added, “The rules are clear: if you don’t try to play the ball, it’s a red card. I don’t know if the rule is fair.”
He continued, “I think the red card was unnecessary because we’re going to lose in the semi-finals, but in the end, it’s a good lesson to learn from, and we have to accept it.”
Regarding the match against Paris Saint-Germain, the Belgian goalkeeper said, “I wish the match had been played at night so we could see an enjoyable performance from both teams. The heat will affect both teams and may not be conducive to an enjoyable match.”
He continued, “Paris Saint-Germain is a great team, they are the Champions League champions and have a string of positive results. It will never be an easy match for us.”
It should be noted that the winner of the Real Madrid-Paris Saint-Germain match will face the winner of the Fluminense-Chelsea match in the final next Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
