AC Milan’s sporting director, Igri Tare, confirmed that his club has reached an agreement with Real Madrid legend Luka Modric to join the Rossoneri during the current summer transfer window.
The Croatian international’s contract with the club expires at the end of the 2025 Club World Cup, and both parties have agreed not to renew it after a legendary 13-year career during which Modric became Real’s most decorated player in history.
Since announcing his termination from Los Blancos, Modric received several offers from American and Saudi clubs before deciding to remain in Europe and join another giant, Milan.

Modric Will Move to Milan After the Club World Cup
When asked about the news of Modric’s move to Milan, Tare said, “Yes, I spoke with him personally and I sensed a great desire from him to take on this challenge.”
He added, “Modric has won six Champions League titles and is looking for a leadership role, and he will be at Milan from the first moment.”
He continued, “Modric’s importance is not limited to the technical aspect alone, but also extends to the professional mentality and leadership spirit he brings to the dressing room. He has also been a Milan fan since childhood, which gives the deal a very emotional character.”
Tare concluded his statement by announcing that Modric will move to Milan once he completes his participation with Real Madrid in the 2025 Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States.

Details of Modric’s Transfer to Milan
Italian media indicate that Modric will sign a one-year contract with Milan, with an option to renew for another year by mutual agreement.
The 39-year-old will not earn much money at San Siro, as Modric’s salary with Milan will be between €3 and €5 million this year, despite the fact that it was almost double that with Real Madrid.
Modric wants his move to Milan to be ideal preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which is expected to be the player’s final stop before announcing his retirement and ending his legendary career.
Milan’s Summer 2025 Transfers
Modric will be Milan’s first summer signing, as they look to rebuild after last season’s poor performances, which prevented them from participating in any European competition next season.
Milan appointed Massimiliano Allegri to lead the Rossoneri for a second term, succeeding Portuguese coach Sergio Conceica, who took over last January following the dismissal of his compatriot Paulo Fonseca.
Milan is expected to witness a major upheaval this summer, starting with the sale of Tijani Reinders to Manchester City and the non-renewal of Joao Felix’s loan. Theo Hernandez is expected to complete his move to Al-Hilal in the coming days, while the status of Portuguese Rafael Leão remains uncertain.

Milan have been linked with several players following Modric, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Granit Xhaka, Juventus’ experienced striker Dusan Vlahovic, and Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko.
