Al Hilal CEO Stevie Calzada revealed the reasons behind the Blue Wave’s failure to sign Cristiano Ronaldo for the 2025 Club World Cup.
Since last May, reports have been circulating that Al Hilal might sign Ronaldo on loan from Al Nassr for a month to participate in the World Cup and then return to the Knights of Najd.
Ronaldo ended these rumors by announcing that he would not participate in the World Cup because he was thinking about the long term, not just the short term.
In response to reporters’ questions about the reasons for Ronaldo’s failed transfer, despite confirming that negotiations had taken place between him and Al Hilal, Calzada said, “I respect Ronaldo a lot because of his enormous stature, which everyone is aware of.”
He added, “The whole idea was illogical. It’s very difficult to bring in the biggest player in your main rival (Al Nassr) to play with you for only three or four weeks.”
He concluded by speaking about the summer transfer window and Al Hilal’s expected signings, saying, “Al Hilal’s name came up whenever an agent wanted to negotiate a better contract for his player with his club.”
