There is still no agreement between Lionel Messi and Inter Miami’s management regarding the terms of a new contract that would keep him with the American club for another two years.
This was confirmed by Argentine journalist José Armando, who revealed that the 36-year-old’s chances of remaining at Inter Miami do not exceed 50% at the moment.
Negotiations have been ongoing between the two parties in recent months, but they have not yet resulted in an agreement. Messi’s departure from the American club remains a possibility.
There is no doubt that Messi’s return to Barcelona is the first thing that comes to mind when discussing a possible departure from Inter Miami, especially since he previously confirmed that he would not play for any European club other than the Blaugrana.
However, at the same time, the dispute between Messi and president Joan Laporta has reached a peak, and the poor relationship between the two makes a return nearly impossible unless something new is found.
It remains to be noted that Inter Miami is trying to persuade Messi to renew by offering him the opportunity to play in Europe again. They want him to go on loan to any club of his choice from next October until March (the end of the season in America). This could be an ideal option for the player for a final trip with Barcelona.
It’s also worth noting that all indications indicate that Messi will participate in the 2026 World Cup with Argentina, so it would make sense for him to continue with Inter Miami, where there is less pressure and no excessive physical effort. This would be the best preparation for him to defend his World Cup title.
