Inter to withdraw from Italian Super Cup to hold the competition in Saudi Arabia

Inter has objected to the Italian Football Federation’s decision to hold the 2026 Super Cup in Saudi Arabia for the third consecutive year and the fifth overall.

According to Corriere della Sera, Inter’s management wanted the Super Cup to be held normally in Italy due to the heavy fixture load.

Beppe Marotta’s management believed that mid-season travel, coupled with the extremely congested schedule, would increase the incidence of injuries, and therefore did not want the competition to be held in Saudi Arabia again.

Inter demanded that, even if the competition were held in Saudi Arabia, it be played as a single match to reduce the physical burden on the players.

However, the Italian Federation’s decision to hold the Super Cup in Saudi Arabia with four teams was against Inter’s wishes, and the Nerazzurri initially decided to withdraw from the competition.

The decision has not been officially announced, but it is expected that the parties involved will enter into new negotiations in the hope of dissuading Inter from this move.

If Inter persists with its position, it will be subject to financial and sporting sanctions, as it has withdrawn from an official Italian tournament and caused economic losses.

It’s worth noting that Inter lost the Italian Super Cup last year to AC Milan in Saudi Arabia, losing 3-2 in the final.
