Barcelona came from behind to beat Atlético Madrid 2–1 at the Metropolitano in the final match of La Liga’s 12th round, restoring their outright lead at the top before the international break.
Giuliano Simeone put Atlético ahead in the 10th minute after a pass from Julián Álvarez. Fermín López equalised before half-time with a left-footed strike from inside the box, then scored the winner in the 66th minute after Lamine Yamal’s through ball sent him one-on-one with Jan Oblak.
Barcelona moved to 33 points, three clear of Real Madrid, who had briefly drawn level with a 3–0 win over Valencia. Atlético stayed third on 28 points after suffering their first home league defeat of the season, which ended a six-match winning streak.
Barcelona became only the third team in La Liga history to win on five consecutive league visits to Atlético. Athletic Club completed a five-game run in 1955, while Real Madrid recorded a sixth straight win in 2013.
It was also the third successive league visit to Atlético in which Hansi Flick’s side came from behind to win. Barcelona won 4–2 in 2024–25 after trailing by two goals until the 70th minute, then won 2–1 last season in another game in which Giuliano Simeone opened the scoring.
Barcelona have now won their first six away games in a La Liga season for the third time in their history. They won their first ten on the road in both 2010–11 and 2012–13. They have also scored 48 goals in 12 league games this season, averaging four per match.
Barcelona return from the break at home to Villarreal on 22 November. They then travel to Baku to face Azerbaijan’s Sabah in the Champions League on 25 November before visiting Deportivo La Coruña at Riazor on 29 November.
Atlético visit Getafe on 22 November and host Norway’s Viking FK three days later, looking for their second Champions League win of the season. They then travel to Elche on 28 November.
The two sides meet again just 24 days later, with Barcelona hosting Atlético at Camp Nou on 2 December. La Liga brought the matchday 23 fixture forward because both clubs are due to play in the Spanish Super Cup in February.
