USM Alger won the CAF Super Cup for the second time in their history, beating Mamelodi Sundowns 3–1 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
Zakaria Draoui opened the scoring for the Algerian side in the fourth minute. Iqraam Rayners equalised from the penalty spot in the 25th, but Saâdi Radouani restored USM Alger’s lead 12 minutes later.
Heavy rain delayed the start of the second half. Once play resumed, Ahmed Khaldi made it 3–1 in the 55th minute, and USM Alger held firm under late pressure from Sundowns.
The victory gave USM Alger their fourth African trophy in four years. They won their first continental title in 2023, beating Tanzania’s Young Africans on away goals in the CAF Confederation Cup final. Later that year, they lifted the Super Cup with a 1–0 win over Egypt’s Al Ahly in Taif, courtesy of a Zineddine Belaïd goal.
USM Alger reclaimed the Confederation Cup in May 2026, beating Zamalek 8–7 on penalties in Cairo after the two-legged final ended 1–1 on aggregate. Their victory in Pretoria completed a second Confederation Cup and Super Cup double after their first in 2023.
The result ended Sundowns’ 15-match unbeaten run as the home side in African competitions, including the preliminary rounds. Their previous defeat came on 26 April 2024, when Tunisia’s Espérance won 1–0 in the second leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final.
The Super Cup defeat compounded a difficult continental campaign for Sundowns. They entered the CAF Champions League as defending champions but went out in the second preliminary round, missing the group stage for the first time since 2015.
Angolan side Wiliete held Sundowns to a goalless draw in the first leg and drew 1–1 in Pretoria thanks to a goal from Mabululu, going through on away goals. Sundowns returned to the same stadium for the Super Cup and missed the chance to make amends.
