Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has become the outright leading scorer in Champions League history before the age of 20, surpassing the record previously held by Kylian Mbappé.
The Spanish winger has added another milestone to his growing collection of European achievements, moving from chasing Mbappé to setting the benchmark himself — with further opportunities to extend his lead in the coming months.
Yamal has now scored 14 goals in the competition, one more than Mbappé managed before his 20th birthday. Norway’s Erling Haaland scored 10 goals before reaching the same age.
Yamal had drawn level with Mbappé by scoring against Paris Saint-Germain on Matchday 3 of this season’s league phase, before adding the goal that gave him sole possession of the record.
His Champions League scoring journey began against Monaco in September 2024. Aged 17 years and 68 days, he became the competition’s second-youngest scorer, behind Ansu Fati.
Yamal had previously taken another record from Mbappé by becoming the youngest player to score in a Champions League semi-final. He found the net against Inter in April 2025 at 17 years and 291 days, beating the Frenchman’s mark of 18 years and 140 days, set for Monaco against Juventus.
The Barcelona star still has time to raise the bar, as he will not turn 20 until 13 July 2027. He had already scored 11 goals in the competition before his 19th birthday, another record in his growing European résumé.
