Mohamed Salah continued his scintillating form for Trabzonspor, leading them to a 2-0 victory over Beşiktaş as the team secured another major win in their big clashes in the Turkish Süper Lig.
Trabzonspor hosted the match at the Papara Park stadium on Monday evening for the eighth matchday of the competition, in a fixture that highlighted the continuation of the team’s strong start under their German manager, Thomas Reis.
Ozan Tufan opened the scoring for the hosts in the 21st minute, before Salah struck in the 71st minute to net the second, handing his side a comfortable cushion and sealing the win against one of their title rivals.
The Egyptian star raised his tally to 8 goals in 8 Turkish Süper Lig matches, taking sole possession of the top scorer’s spot, while his overall tally with Trabzonspor reached 9 goals across all competitions, having also scored against Finnish side KuPS in the UEFA Conference League.
With this victory, Trabzonspor climbed to fourth place with 16 points, three behind leaders Galatasaray, after recording five wins, one draw, and two defeats from their opening eight games.
Salah’s goal carried a special Egyptian footprint, making him only the second Egyptian player to score against Beşiktaş in a Trabzonspor shirt in Turkish league history, following compatriot Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet,” who previously represented the club.
At the team level, Trabzonspor secured their fourth consecutive victory in major league derbies, having defeated Galatasaray 2-1, then Beşiktaş by the same scoreline, before thrashing Galatasaray 4-0, and finally defeating Beşiktaş 2-0.
They thus equaled their longest winning run against traditional rivals in league history, repeating a milestone dating back to the period between May and December 1989—nearly 37 years ago.
Meanwhile, Reis became the first foreign manager in Trabzonspor history to win his first three league matches—following victories over Galatasaray (4-0), Samsunspor (3-0), and Beşiktaş (2-0)—with a combined haul of 9 goals scored and none conceded.
