Alexander Isak has departed the Sweden national team camp prior to the conclusion of the international break, after the Swedish Football Association confirmed that the Liverpool striker is dealing with what was described as a “minor” injury, without offering a detailed diagnosis or official recovery timeline.
Isak suffered a heavy tackle during the second half of Sweden’s match against Romania, resulting in a laceration and bleeding to one of his toes. Despite limping visibly, he played through the pain to complete the full 90 minutes, later clarifying post-match that the discomfort would require time to fully settle.
His departure rules him out of Sweden’s remaining fixtures against Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Romania. Upon his return to the AXA Training Centre, he will undergo comprehensive medical evaluation by Liverpool’s medical staff.
Isak delivered an impactful performance against Romania, scoring the opening goal in Sweden’s 2–1 victory before the injury curtailed his international involvement.
Despite the setback, Isak remains in contention for Liverpool’s marquee Premier League clash against Manchester City at Anfield on October 11, giving him roughly two weeks to recover. His availability will ultimately depend on further medical scans and his response to treatment.
The 27-year-old striker has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign, tallying four goals across his first five Premier League appearances, alongside an assist in the UEFA Champions League—bringing his overall return to four goals and one assist in six starts across all competitions.
This early-season form represents a vital turnaround for Isak following a difficult debut campaign at Anfield, where he struggled to achieve peak fitness or sustain a consistent run of matches.
Last season, Isak suffered a severe ankle injury that included a fibula fracture requiring surgery, sidelining him for approximately 15 weeks. His return was further hampered by minor physical setbacks, limiting him to just four goals in 22 appearances across all competitions.
