Polish footballer Oskar Kordus has passed away at the age of 20 from severe injuries sustained in a tragic traffic accident in western Poland.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Monday, September 21, on the Gostyń bypass road along the stretch connecting Krajewice and Grabonóg.
The tragedy began when a Volkswagen collided with a deer crossing the road. The impact propelled the animal into the oncoming lane, sending it through the windshield of a BMW driven by Kordus.
The young player suffered severe facial injuries, and his vehicle flipped multiple times before coming to a rest in a roadside ditch. He was rushed to a hospital in Poznań for emergency medical treatment.
Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries later that evening. The driver of the other vehicle escaped unharmed.
Kania Gostyń paid tribute to their player in an official statement: “It is with profound sadness and disbelief that we learned of the death of our player Oskar Kordus,” amidst widespread shock across local football.
Kordus competed for the fourth-tier Polish side, passing away at the dawn of his career following an accident he had no opportunity to avoid.
