Juventus has initiated a search for a new goalkeeper after Kamil Grabara suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in his right knee, delivering a severe blow to manager Luciano Spalletti’s plans for the current campaign.
The injury occurred during team training just days after the Polish goalkeeper’s official debut, leaving the club once again without an established backup to starting goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
Juventus confirmed that medical evaluations conducted at the J-Medical center revealed a torn ACL. Grabara will undergo further consultations to determine the exact course of treatment, with expectations pointing to an absence of at least six months.
The 27-year-old joined Juventus on August 25, 2026, on loan from Wolfsburg through June 2027 for a €500,000 fee plus €200,000 in ancillary costs, alongside potential performance bonuses up to €300,000 and an option to buy set at €11.5 million.
While Grabara had yet to feature in Serie A, he started against NEC Nijmegen in the UEFA Europa League, keeping a clean sheet in a 5–0 victory and assisting Nicolás González with a long pass—a dream debut that lasted just two days before injury struck.
Former Bianconeri goalkeeper Neto has emerged among the candidates for a return to Turin, drawing on his past experience with the club. However, the Brazilian shot-stopper is now 37 years old and has lacked regular competitive game time in recent months.
The list of potential options includes Sergio Rico, Alessio Cragno, Jasper Cillessen, and Bruno Varela. Alternatively, promoting Riccardo Radu from the Next Gen squad remains an internal solution that would also aid the club’s squad registration lists.
This crisis follows two years of instability in Juventus’s goalkeeping department. Wojciech Szczęsny departed in 2024 and was replaced by Michele Di Gregorio, whose dip in form led to him temporarily losing his spot to Mattia Perin last season.
Juventus overhauled the position in the summer of 2026 by signing Vicario as first choice, parting ways with both Di Gregorio and Perin, and bringing in Grabara as backup. Grabara’s immediate setback forces the club back into the market before the new setup could settle.
