Zamalek squandered a victory that was within their grasp, drawing 1-1 with Kaizer Chiefs in the second round of the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Zamalek took the lead through Seifeddine Jaziri in the third minute and dominated possession almost entirely, with the home side posing little threat to the White Knights’ goal.
However, in the fourth minute of stoppage time, goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhi made a costly error, mishandling a ball that was within his grasp and inadvertently putting it into his own net.
Zamalek had won their first match against ZESCO United 1-0, while Al Masry defeated Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 and then ZESCO in Zambia 3-2.
