The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has officially confirmed Zamalek’s participation in the 2026–2027 CAF Champions League, marking the White Knights’ return to Africa’s premier club competition after a three-season absence.
Pyramids FC will join Zamalek as Egypt’s second representative in the Champions League, while Al Ahly and ZED FC are set to feature in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Zamalek clinched their Champions League spot after winning the 2025–2026 Egyptian Premier League title—the 15th in the club’s history—following a fierce title race with Pyramids and Al Ahly that went down to the final matchday.
The club’s participation had been contingent on fulfilling CAF licensing criteria and settling outstanding financial claims. Zamalek’s board successfully resolved the issues by clearing debts owed to Ukrainian side Oleksandriya and former player Ibrahima Ndiaye, officially lifting their ban.
The EFA had previously submitted a proposal to CAF advocating for an increase in club allocation for top-ranked leagues, which would grant leading nations a third spot in both continental tournaments.
While the proposal remains under consideration, indications suggest it will not be implemented for the 2026–2027 campaign, particularly following the confirmation of Egypt’s representatives under the current system and CAF’s announcement of the official schedule.
Zamalek return to the Champions League after spending the past three seasons in the Confederation Cup—a tournament they won in 2024 before finishing as runners-up in the 2026 edition. The White Castle will now set its sights on winning the elusive Champions League title for the first time since 2002.
