Zamalek’s management has decided to give Yannick Ferreira another chance before discussing his future. The Belgian coach will remain in his position at least until the upcoming match against Ghazl El Mahalla.
Criticism against Ferreira has intensified following the 2-1 derby defeat to Al Ahly, with calls for his dismissal increasing due to his disastrous management of the match.
According to Egyptian journalist Ahmed Shobeir, John Edward, the sporting director, categorically refuses to discuss the idea of dismissing Ferreira at all.
Surprisingly, Zamalek president Hussein Labib and his deputy Hisham Nasr also support Ferreira’s continued tenure. The unanimous opinion within the White Castle is that it is too early to judge the coach’s experience, and that the best option currently is for him to continue.
It is now almost certain that Ferreira will sit on the bench against Ghazl El Mahalla next Saturday, after which discussions about the coach’s future may begin again.
If Zamalek loses or draws against El Mahalla, Ferreira could be dismissed under the expected pressure from fans. However, a win could keep him in his position until after the international break.
Ferreira has led Zamalek in nine matches, winning five, drawing two, and losing two. The White Castle still leads the Egyptian Premier League with 17 points, but they will lose the lead if Pyramids and Al Ahly win their remaining matches.
