The center-back, who recently featured for the Egyptian national team at the 2026 World Cup, is entering the final year of his contract with Zamalek. The Cairo giants failed to convince the player to sign a contract extension due to the severe financial crisis that has plagued the club over the past year.

Abdelmaguid has long harbored dreams of playing in Europe, and Zamalek’s board has decided not to stand in his way after receiving a lucrative €1.5 million offer from Ludogorets.

The deal also includes several performance-based add-ons: Zamalek will receive an additional €300,000 if Ludogorets qualifies for the UEFA Champions League group stage, and €100,000 if they reach the UEFA Europa League group stage instead. Furthermore, Zamalek has secured a 20% sell-on clause on any future transfer exceeding €4 million.

Despite Abdelmaguid’s immense importance to the squad, Zamalek’s board, led by Hussein Labib, has been forced to sell key assets to settle outstanding debts. This severe financial crunch currently threatens the club’s eligibility to participate in the upcoming CAF Champions League season.

As of now, Zamalek’s total debts exceed €8 million. While the management has successfully reached settlement agreements with several creditors, major high-profile disputes remain unresolved—most notably that of former player Ibrahima Ndiaye, to whom the club owes $1.6 million.

It is worth noting that Hossam Abdelmaguid played a memorable role in Egypt’s recent international campaign, scoring the decisive penalty in the shootout victory against Australia in the World Cup Round of 32. He also started the group stage match against New Zealand but was forced off early after sustaining a facial injury.
