Zamalek has appointed Motameed Gamal as the first team’s coach, replacing Ahmed Abdel Raouf, but only on a temporary basis until a new foreign coach is hired.
Abdel Raouf resigned from his position due to the immense pressure he faced recently after taking over from Belgian Yannick Ferrera.
Gamal will begin his new role today, Wednesday, assisted by Ibrahim Salah, while the foreign coaching staff will remain unchanged from Abdel Raouf’s tenure.
Gamal is scheduled to lead Zamalek in their upcoming match against Zed in the Egyptian Cup on January 11.
Zamalek is still searching for a new foreign coach, with Brazilian coach Micale, who led the Egyptian national team to a fourth-place finish at the 2024 Paris Olympics, being a leading candidate.
John Edward and Zamalek officials are working to finalize the foreign coach appointment as soon as possible, as the Egyptian Premier League resumes on January 20, followed by the CAF Confederation Cup. I
t is worth noting that Motameed Gamal had previously led Zamalek temporarily after the dismissal of Juan Carlos Osorio in 2023, and at that time he succeeded in rescuing the White Castle relatively from crises, before he left and Jose Gomes took over the task.
