Spanish media reports indicate that Xavi Hernandez has rejected an offer to coach the Moroccan national team for the 2026 World Cup.
Walid Regragui’s departure from coaching the Atlas Lions is now only a matter of time, and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation is searching for a replacement just three months before the tournament.
In recent days, negotiations began between Fouzi Lekjaa’s administration and Xavi, based on the belief that the Catalan coach could make an immediate impact.
However, according to recent reports, Xavi has rejected the Moroccan offer, clearly stating that the time before the World Cup is too short to build a comprehensive technical project.
It is expected that most foreign coaches will share this stance, making the most likely option the appointment of a Moroccan coach, just as happened before the 2022 World Cup.
The name of the current coach of the Moroccan national team, Tarik Sektioui, tops the list of candidates to succeed Regragui.
It is noted that Xavi confirmed he is open to the idea of coaching Morocco, but only after the 2026 World Cup, making it highly likely he will arrive there next August.
